Central Highlands Regional Council welcomed representatives from the Local Government Association of Queensland for an Elected Member Update workshop last week.
Council’s Chief Executive Officer Scott Mason said the workshop was an important part of council’s commitment to accountable and transparent governance.
‘It was an excellent professional development opportunity for our elected members,’ he said.
‘It enabled them to further develop their role as effective communicators on behalf of their communities, particularly expanding on previous candidate training and understanding of legislation.’
Mr Mason said balancing community needs and wants while achieving strategy, delivering capital projects, providing essential and affordable services and improving council’s long-term financial position were the core duties and challenges for council.
‘It’s invaluable, that every now and then, council discusses the ethical frameworks of working with the community, media, council administration and colleagues.’
