To keep our community up to date with key Council decisions, outcomes and plans; here is a snapshot summary from Council’s Wednesday 26 August 2020 ordinary meeting.
Vibrant Communities Council adopted the Drouin Township Plan with an alternate recommendation, requesting further research and analysis of the options included for the Drouin Recreation Reserve and the effects of COVID-19 on the Drouin community. Council moved to abandon Baw Baw Planning Scheme Amendment C138 for 245 Main South Road, Drouin. Council moved to proceed the Tree Inspection Policy and Guidelines to community consultation following the election caretaker period, before a final policy is presented to Council for adoption. Safe and Sustainable Environments Council moved to respond to a petition from Darnum Primary School requesting the development and implementation of a safe drop off and pick up zone at the primary school by advocating to the Department of Education to develop safe pick up and drop of provisions at the Darnum Primary School. Council noted previous correspondence with the school and resulting road safety works. Organisational Excellence Council adopted the revised Council Plan 2017-2021, describing the key priorities that Council will focus on in the next 12 months. Council adopted the revised Long Term Financial Strategy 2020/21 to 2029/30 providing a ten-year financial framework against which Council’s strategies, policies and financial performance may be measured. Council adopted the revised Long Term Infrastructure Plan 2020/21 to 2029/30 based on several key principles established by Council in the planned investment of capital over the next ten years. Council adopted the Rating Strategy 2020/21 following an assessment to determine whether the rates revenue raised by the Council is fairly and equitably distributed amongst Council’s ratepayers. Council adopted the Annual Budget 2020/21 after receiving 146 submissions during the public consultation period. Council adopted the Declaration of Rates and Charges 2020/21 to formally declare the applicable rates and charges for the 2020/21 financial year. Council adopted the Local Government Act 2020 Major Delegations Review to review and execute the revised S5 and S6 Instruments of Delegation pursuant to requirements of the Local Government Act 2020. What's next?The next Council meeting will be from 5.30pm on Wednesday 9 September at the West Gippsland Arts Centre.
As of 11.59pm on Wednesday 5 August 2020, Council meetings are no longer open to members of the public for a period of 6 weeks due to COVID-19 and Stage 3 Stay at Home restrictions in regional Victoria. Meetings will remain available to the public via live stream, and community submissions can be made in writing.
