The City of Wanneroo will receive over $690,000 in State Government funding to help protect and enhance Perth’s northern beaches.

Transport and Planning Minister Hon Rita Saffioti announced $500,000 would be allocated for upgrades to a groyne at Quinns Beach, a high priority coastal erosion hotspot.

Wanneroo Mayor Tracey Roberts said the State Government’s support would allow the City to effectively manage coastal erosion and ensure the area’s beautiful beaches continue to be enjoyed by the community.

“I would like to thank the State Government for its generous contribution towards the City’s coastal management activities,” Mayor Roberts said.

“The groyne works at Quinns Beach will improve public safety, reduce ongoing maintenance requirements and help protect our coastline into the future.

“The Quinns Rocks community and visitors to the area have enjoyed the benefits of the City’s proactive foreshore management measures in recent years and our coastal works to date have been well received.

“The City looks forward to continuing its close collaboration with the State Government as we manage our precious coastal environment.”

The funding for Quinns Beach groyne works is in addition to new Coastal Adaptation and Protection Grants, including:

Aerial Survey of Beaches and Coastal Structures to track seasonal and long term shoreline changes, informing future coastal maintenance – $21,711; Beach Renourishment Sand Sourcing Feasibility Study – $20,000; and Quinns Beach and Yanchep Lagoon Sand Re-nourishment – $150,000.
