Council Progresses Priorities Despite COVID-19

Development of the West Woolgoolga Sports Complex and plans for a Youth Space at Sandy Beach Reserve are among the many highlights detailed in Coffs Harbour City Council’s latest ‘Six-Monthly Progress Report’ which covers January to June 2020.

“The COVID-19 pandemic has been, and continues to be, a major disruption to all our lives and has had huge impacts on both Australia’s and the world’s economies and our way of life. But right through this time, Council has remained focused on residents and their priorities and we have been able to move forward with some important local projects, as well as providing a range of support measures to assist the community recover from this crisis,” said Coffs Harbour Mayor Councillor Denise Knight.

Council’s General Manager Steve McGrath said that remaining focused on local infrastructure and planning projects will help our local economy recover from the COVID-19 shock. “These types of development activity are vital in providing employment, as well as injecting much-needed cash into the area, particularly at a time in which we’re facing unprecedented challenges.”

Many more achievements are also highlighted in the Six-Monthly Report January – June 2020, which can be found on Council’s website, including:

The hugely successful Elton John concerts at C.ex Coffs International Stadium; Winning multiple awards for planning and engineering excellence including for the Jetty4Shores development; Announcement of a $10m Federal Government grant towards the West Woolgoolga Sports Complex; Construction of the Coffs Harbour Airport Enterprise Park commenced after the Federal Government delivered $10 million for the project; The Local Growth Management Strategy – Rural Lands Component was adopted; Over 798,700 people visited our local patrolled beaches in the past 12 months; Plans for a Youth Space for 8-15 year olds at Sandy Beach Reserve are a step closer following the announcement that the NSW Government is providing $150,000 funding towards the $300,000 project; Polwarth Drive Oval lighting was completed; The Positive Ageing Strategy and Library, Museum, Gallery Strategic Plan was adopted; Extensive water, sewer and transport asset works were undertaken; Land management, community, environmental and sustainability initiatives were delivered; and Community, economic and sporting programs were provided for residents and visitors.

“All of Council’s activities aim to enhance the Coffs Harbour local government area as a great place to live, work and visit and help us make sure that we’re in a strong position to embrace the future,” added Cr Knight.
