Amazing Week of Culture (27 August 2020)

This past week we have had the pleasure of launching two amazing art exhibitions with beautiful artworks showing Gumbaynggirr culture right through to the Central Australia, the Kimberley and Arnhem Land.  The Coffs Harbour Regional Gallery is incredibly excited to be able to display the Robert and Janice Hunter Collection and the work of Brentyn Lugnan.  The exhibitions are running until 17 October and are not to be missed.

Another pleasure I had was to receive a gift at the Regional Museum by a talented local craftsman Don Langley.  The perfect scale model of Coffs Harbour’s 1906 Police Station and Courthouse – complete with miniature larrikins awaiting sentence.

As you can see from the front cover of this edition the 1:25 scale model accurately portrays the historic building over a century ago when it contained a police station, courtroom, magistrate’s room, police living quarters, two lock-up cells, an exercise yard and a stable.

So do try to get along to our Regional Museum to enjoy more of our wonderful local history and built by a local, it doesn’t get any better.

Lastly more exceptional funding news this time from the NSW State Government, after the $500,000 grant for our new central library, we found out last week we have been awarded $800,000 to create a ‘green spine’ shared cycleway from the city centre to the sea.

The pieces of our great regional city are certainly taking shape, better facilities, better connections mean a better lifestyle for us all.
