PLANNING OFFICER Full Time (12 Months) Ongoing permanent part time or full time after 12 months
Southern Midlands Council is seeking a suitably qualified person to fill the position of Planning Officer in its Development and Environmental Services business unit based at Council’s Kempton office. This is a 12 month fulltime position. At the end of the 12 month period the successful applicant may be offered either a permanent full-time or permanent part-time position with the Council.
The key responsibility is the administration of the Planning Scheme and the assessment of development applications including associated administration and coordination. The position will include fulfilling the role of Planning Officer for the Central Highlands Council through a resource sharing arrangement. There is also potential for further work with other Councils in the South East region on as needed/required basis. Some strategic and project management work will be included in the position. The position provides an excellent opportunity to accumulate a broad range of experience.
Applicants must possess or be working towards a recognised planning qualification, must be customer focused, possess excellent interpersonal skills, be highly self-motivated and have good written and verbal communication skills. Previous experience in local government would be desirable.
Salary will be negotiated with the successful applicant based on skills knowledge and qualifications in accordance with Council’s EBA. A vehicle and phone is included in the package.
