The unveiling of two street murals that embrace the messages of ‘home’ and ‘heritage’ were officially launched today, as part of the Liverpool Youth Council’s Street Art Mural Project.

The Liverpool Youth Council initiative invited local artists to submit mural designs that enhanced the aesthetics of the city centre while capturing Liverpool’s diversity, rapid growth and location as a place of hope and new beginnings.

Liverpool Mayor Wendy Waller announced the winning mural titled Home by local artist Phu Nguyen.

The work depicts Liverpool as a nest - a place for families to build a home and start a new life.

Home has been installed in the Liverpool City Library forecourt area on the shared wall between Francis Greenway Centre and the Library.

A second mural by local artist Justin Michael capturing Liverpool’s cultural diversity has been installed at the amenities building in Moore Street, near the Bigge Park water play area.

“I know it was a tough job to choose the winning mural because they were both stand-out entries and we decided to display both in the city centre,” Mayor Waller said.

“These murals reinforce our city as home to people of all walks of life and pay homage to our heritage and the cultural richness of people who make Liverpool what it is today.

Mayor Waller also acknowledged the Youth Council for its leadership and dedication to the project.

“The Street Art Mural Project is a wonderful example of how young people in Liverpool are helping to create vibrant and safe places for everyone in our community to enjoy.

“The Liverpool Youth Council is making a difference and leaving a lasting and positive impression on our city.”
