The Liverpool community is set to benefit with an exciting new facility to be built at Schoeffel Park in Horningsea Park, focused on enjoying outdoor recreation. Liverpool City Council will build the city’s first pump track - designed for people to ride bikes across the circuit without pedalling - with work to begin in December 2020.

Liverpool Mayor Wendy Waller welcomed $1.4 million in funding under the Federal Government’s Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program to fast-track the delivery of a high-quality recreational venue for the growing community to enjoy.

“Schoeffel Park, in Horningsea Park, will be home to Liverpool’s first asphalt pump track – an inclusive riding space for people to BMX and mountain bike on a continuous circuit of loops, turns, berms and mounds designed to maintain speed without the rider pedalling.

“In addition, there will be a children’s playground and outdoor gym equipment, where young people, families and visitors to Liverpool can spend some time outdoors at their leisure or keeping physically active,” Mayor Waller said.

“Council is always lobbying for infrastructure funding to support our growing community. The Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program will assist in the provision of services and infrastructure facilities at a grassroots level.”

Federal Member for Werriwa, Anne Stanley MP commended Liverpool City Council for the outstanding job delivering for the community over the last few years. “It’s important that we appreciate the outdoors and value time with our families and friends. Facilities like the one planned for Schoeffel Park, make that much more attractive and enjoyable.

“The Schoeffel Park complex, made available under the Federal funding that I was more than happy to assist in securing, will focus on fitness, landscaping and recreational amenities.

“I’m excited that the complex will go ahead and look forward to its completion,” Ms Stanley said.

The Schoeffel Park will cost $2.2 million and will feature:

● a new asphalt pump track; ● children’s playground with shade structure; ● outdoor gym with shade structure; ● picnic tables and park furniture; ● accessible footpaths; ● landscaping; and ● a car park - 20 spaces.

The Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program is part of the Federal Government's $1.8 billion boost for local government areas across Australia, to help communities battling the effects of COVID-19.
