Liverpool City Council has completed the construction of a $1.3 million four-court tennis facility with lighting at McGirr Park in Miller.

Liverpool Mayor Wendy Waller said the facility helps meet the growing demand for  open space, recreation and sports facilities across Liverpool.

“This is one of five tennis venues across our city that community members can use for leisure or training,” Mayor Waller said.

“It is wonderful news for tennis players in Liverpool, and Miller residents in particular as it brings a first-class sporting venue to the area that can be used for generations to come.”

The recreational facility includes two synthetic grass and two acrylic courts, an amenities building, lighting, landscaping, paths and car parking, and will be open for public use from 17 August 2020.

Council will lease the newly built facility to Tennis First Australia which provides personalised, competitive and team-based training programs and services for players of all skill levels.

The new courts replace those removed at Phillips Park in Lurnea, where Council is building a $16 million sports and community precinct.
