Macedon Ranges Shire Council, Gisborne Landcare and Melbourne Water are working together to ensure Gisborne’s Bunjil and Howey creeks are flourishing and healthy waterways.
A draft Environmental Management Plan has been prepared to help break the stranglehold of invasive weeds and guide future restoration efforts for these important local creeks.
Director Planning and Environment, Angela Hughes said the draft plan provides a long-term vision for the creeks and a staged, five-year, implementation program.
“This will involve interested Gisborne Landcare volunteers, landowners, as well as relevant Macedon Ranges Shire and Melbourne Water staff,” Ms Hughes said.
“This draft plan highlights the environmental values of the creek and helps to identify and prioritise locations where weed control activities and revegetation needs to occur.”
Key locations for proposed works include:
the confluence of Howey and Bunjil Creek near Fersfield Road Howey Creek around Willowbank Estate Reserve Bunjil Creek around Carinya Drive.High threat weeds to be targeted include blackberry, broom, gorse and willow.
Feedback on the draft plan is invited until 11.59am on Tuesday 22 September 2020.
