If you live in the Rainbow Beach area, especially near Carlo Circle Road and Green Valley Drive, you may see some smoke this week.
Gympie Regional Council and the Rural Fire Service will look to do some hazard reduction burning this week, if the weather is favourable.
“These burns are important, especially heading into bushfire season,” said Councillor Jess Milne.
“The aim is to reduce the fuel, and by extension reduce the hazard, which is a bushfire.
“The burn will be conducted in a way which allows for plenty of remaining habitat for wildlife,” Cr Milne said.
Gympie Regional Council is advising residents to ensure that all property belonging to you is removed from council land and that any flammable items close to your boundary are removed to a safe location.
This includes shade cloth or plastic materials that may be affected by embers or heat.
Removing clothes from lines, closing windows or vacating the site for the day will also limit the impact of smoke.
