Bayside kids have become master bike jump makers and dirt track builders in COVID lockdown, creating informal bike fun in our parks, bushlands and road verges.

While we acknowledge the industriousness of some of the amateur builders, safety trumps play.

We’re taking a risk based approach to managing these amateur bike tracks during COVID-19, with community safety as our top priority.

This means where amateur bike jumps and tracks don’t pose a risk to the community, we will leave them during COVID-19 restrictions as long as users adhere to social gathering and exercise restrictions. Ride on!

On the other hand, where a homemade bike track or jump on Council land is close to hard surfaces such as a footpath, concrete edge, trees or other infrastructure, it will be removed immediately. Tracks that pose a risk to community safety including other park users will also be removed.

Protecting our native vegetation is also important so we will remove tracks made in fragile areas or use fencing to protect our native plants.

Bayside parents are encouraged to please supervise our kids when out enjoying your one hour of exercise, within 5kms of home. View Stage 4 restrictions here.
