The Shire of Coolgardie is excited to announce that the Kambalda Aquatic Facility will officially open for summer on Saturday 26 September – just in time for the school holidays.

The new Aquatic Facility includes a refurbished 50-metre pool with universal access, a learn to swim pool with beach access, renovated change rooms, and a new administration office. Expansive grassed areas and upgraded barbecues with disabled access allows members of the community to spend longer at the facility and enjoy the day with friends and family.

Shire President, Malcolm Cullen said the Kambalda Aquatic Facility is a key tourism sporting asset for the region.

“The new facility has surpassed our expectations. The pool will not only act as a meeting place for locals, but will attract visitors from neighbouring towns to our Shire. The Kambalda Aquatic Facility is a drawcard for the region,” said Cr Cullen.

To thank the community for their patience during construction, the Shire of Coolgardie has announced that entry to the pool will be free for the 2020-21 summer season.

“We acknowledge that our community has spent two summer seasons without access to a local pool. To give back, we will be offering free entry to both the Coolgardie and Kambalda pools this summer,” said Cr Cullen.

As part of the Shire’s COVID-19 Risk Management Plan, and in line with the WA Health and Royal Lifesaving Australia guidelines, the Kambalda Aquatic Facility will be subject to 260 patrons at any one time. Similarly, the Coolgardie Pool will be subject to a 190-person capacity limit.

The capacity limit will be monitored by staff at the entrance to each facility. The Shire of Coolgardie requests that patrons respect and plan for the capacity limit when visiting the facility.

“On particularly hot summer days, we are considering a time limit of 2 hours to allow more community members access to the pool throughout the day,” said Cr Cullen.

“Lifeguards on duty will also be cleaning facility changerooms, toilets, tables and disabled equipment hourly to ensure good hygiene standards are maintained.”

The Kambalda Aquatic Facility was joint funded by Federal Government ($297k), State Government ($700k), Gold Fields Australia Foundation ($200k) and the Shire of Coolgardie.
