New playground plans in full swing

Three new playground designs for Elsternwick Park South, Ashwood Reserve and Old Dairy Reserve are set to put a big smile on little faces.

Each play space has been developed with help from our Playground Testers, users and local residents and follows community consultation undertaken in November 2019.

There are some brand new play elements proposed for each upgrade and where practical, materials from the old playgrounds will be recycled and built into any future playground construction.

Improvements planned for Elsternwick Park south (north side) will see the traditional play equipment make way for a more natural play setting.

Key elements proposed for Elsternwick Park playground include an eagles lair, water play unit and a teepee structure. Other additions include a range of multi-sensory experiences that are set to stimulate the child’s imagination and curiosity including musical instruments, musical pipes, a spiral game table and speaking tubes.

Adventure will take centre stage at the Ashwood Reserve playground upgrade in Highett. Key improvements proposed for the park include a new rope climbing structure, large climbing rocks, updates to the flying fox and adding a new ‘Pendulum swing’ with accessible access.

Old Dairy Reserve in Brighton East will receive a brightly coloured makeover. The new design features a unique range of play experiences for the young and young at heart. The space includes brightly painted large timber balancing beams, log steppers, climbing poles and new rope climbing structure.

As well offering a diverse range of play experiences the three upgrades will offer landscaping improvements, updates to the paths to improve accessibility and provide new areas for shelter and picnics.

These upgrades are being delivered as part of Council’s $ 10.3 million plan to upgrade every playground in Bayside over 10 years.
