Progression of Onslow gym and childcare facilities
Shire of Ashburton 8 Sep 2020

Earlier this year the Shire of Ashburton set out to achieve 81 capital works projects as part of the 2020/21 Budget.

This includes a number of highly anticipated significant community and infrastructure projects across all four towns that will deliver essential services to the district.

Shire President Kerry White said that she is pleased to advise that $2.5M funding has been secured toward the extension of the Onslow gym and childcare facilities in Onslow.

“I am happy that we are delivering on our commitment to the community and acknowledge the financial contribution through our community partner Chevron and the State Government through the Department of Jobs, Tourism, Science and Innovation (JTSI)” said Councillor White.

“The Onslow Gym and Childcare project involves relocating the existing gym to extend the facilities and services offered by the One Tree childcare centre

“The new modular gymnasium will be located at Lot 644 Third Avenue, adjacent to the existing tennis courts and will extend the usability and access of the current service and also provide improved amenities for gym users.

“When completed it will form part of a larger sporting precinct in one area with shared car parking for the sports club, tennis courts, gymnasium and oval.

“We recognise the demand for childcare across all towns in our Shire and are satisfied by extending the current facility there will be the capacity to cater for additional places within the centre.

“The Shire of Ashburton is committed to creating vibrant and active communities that have access to a range of quality services including childcare, healthcare and youth services as well as providing a range of sustainable services and facilities for the community.

“We recognise the importance of our Working Together for Onslow partners, the Chevron-operated Wheatstone project, in the delivery of these projects and in the realisation of the development of connected and active communities who embrace our Pilbara lifestyle”.

Tender submissions are now being accepted from suitably registered, qualified and experienced contractors for the construction of the new gymnasium and upgrades to the existing childcare facility.

Further details are available on our website, www.ashburton.wa.gov.au. Tender closes at 2pm (WST) Tuesday 22 September 2020.
