Planning permit applications continue to rise

The number of planning permit applications received by Gannawarra Shire Council continues to increase.

The State Government’s Planning Permit Activity Report for 2019/2020 revealed Council received 137 planning permit applications during the previous financial year.

This figure is four more than the total number of applications received in the 2018/2019 financial year and is the fourth consecutive year the applications received increased compared to the previous 12 months.

“It is pleasing that the number of planning permit applications continue to rise in the Gannawarra,” Council Chief Executive Officer, Tom O’Reilly said.

“The 137 planning permit applications have a combined estimated cost of development of around $11.5 million, which is higher than the rural Victorian council average of just over $10 million.

“However, these results represent more than numbers. Each project reflects employment opportunities for residents and businesses, especially during these unusual times.”

The Planning Permit Activity Report also recognised Council’s continued efforts in reducing the median processing days it took responsible authorities to determine the outcome of planning permit applications, with the figure remaining under 40 days for the second consecutive financial year.

“These statistics recognise the work Council staff put in with applicants to ensure projects meet planning regulations and ensuring projects can begin in a timely manner,” Mr O’Reilly said.

Anyone considering a change in the way they use their land or a development in the Gannawarra is encouraged to contact Council’s planning team on (03) 5450 9333.
