Council to upgrade vehicles and equipment MEDIA RELEASE

Council will spend $4.8 million to replace ageing and out-dated vehicles and equipment this financial year.

The Fleet Replacement Program aims to decrease repair costs and downtime, while providing Council with fit-for-purpose vehicles and plant equipment.

Council’s fleet consists of over 800 assets, which includes passenger and light commercials vehicles, trucks, heavy plant, mowers and trailers, with a combined replacement value of more than $40 million.

The vast majority of the fleet replacement budget is expected to be spent with local suppliers – historically about 90 per cent has been spent locally.

There are times when a specialised equipment needs to be sourced elsewhere as it is not available in the Cairns region.
