The water station is now in operation at the South Albury Active Zone.
It has been provided to council free of charge by developer of the technology, Australian company Meet PAT, which is trialling the technology for the first time and is keen to assess community feedback.
The station allows visitors to the active zone to rehydrate without having to touch the fountain with hands or mouth, minimising the risk of the spread of COVID-19 or other illnesses.
Meet PAT says the sensor-activated system is part of its goal to promote the environmental and health benefits of drinking tap water.
The station’s effectiveness will be monitored during its warranty period, after which a decision will be made as to whether it remains in place, or returns to a traditional button-activated fountain.
