Analysing coronavirus impacts on Cairns Airport business MEDIA RELEASE

Published: 09 September 2020. (Note: information was correct at date of publication but may have since been changed or superseded.)

Council will help fund an economic impact analysis of businesses at Cairns Airport.

Funding of $10,000 will be provided to Cairns Aviation Skills Centre Ltd (CASC) through Council’s Industry and Economic Development Fund to assess both pre- and post-COVID-19 activity at Cairns Airport.

The economic impact of activity at Cairns Airport has previously focused on tourism and flight movements. However, the economic impact to other operations, including maintenance, repair and overhaul providers, has never been fully investigated.

It is hoped that data from analysis will provide greater insight into the impact of COVID-19, and possibly support future development of the sector which would have positive outcomes for economic growth and diversification in Cairns.

* This resolution from today’s Governance and Economics Committee meeting needs to be ratified at the next Ordinary Meeting of Council, to be held on 23 September 2020.
