Sunraysia residents intending to burn-off on their properties ahead of the imminent start of the Fire Danger Period are reminded it is a requirement to obtain a Local Law Permit to Burn.
Permits are required to burn-off on irrigated horticulture properties outside of the Fire Danger Period and can be obtained by visiting www.mildura.vic.gov.au and searching for ‘fire permit’. Permits will not be issued and no longer be valid at the commencement of the Fire Danger Period.
In addition to obtaining a permit, land-owners eligible to burn-off on their properties are reminded to provide the most up-to-date details, including their property address and contact details.
The reminder follows several incidents on the weekend where either no permit had been obtained, the incorrect property details were provided or several permit conditions were breached.
Residents are also reminded Local Law Permit to Burn conditions require land-owners to contact Vic Fire on 1800 668 511 before commencing the burn. Land-owners must also supervise their burn-off at all times and have an adequate water supply.
Local Law Permits to Burn are only available for irrigated horticulture properties, and only outside of the Fire Danger Period. Burning off is not permitted on residential or commercial properties.
Dryland farming properties do not require a permit to burn-off during the non-Fire Danger Period.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, Council’s Customer Service Centres are unable to provide face-to-face service. Residents wishing to obtain a fire permit, or seek further information, can call our Customer Service Team on (03) 5018 8100.
