Only days to go until Flickerfest rolls into the Western Downs

This weekend, the Western Downs will showcase the first of two world-class short film programs from Australia’s largest short-film festival – Flickerfest.   

Western Downs Regional Council Spokesperson for Community and Cultural Development Councillor Kaye Maguire is excited for this prestigious event to hit the region, delivering a selection of entertaining, inspiring and award-winning films for the community to enjoy.

“Council is always on the look-out for events which are exciting and new for the Western Downs community and I believe this is a great example of that and the positive effects great events have on our vibrant communities,” Cr Maguire said.  

 “The screenings offer residents and visitors to the region the opportunity to watch the absolute best in the business right now, which is especially inspiring for local film-makers looking to enhance their skills.  

 “I’m glad Council took the opportunity to partner with Flickerfest and deliver what will be a fantastic festival for our region and a great opportunity for our residents to reconnect with their friends and family.”  

 Flickerfest Director Browyn Kidd is also looking forward to sharing the experience with locals and visitors of the Western Downs region.  

 “Flickerfest’s ‘Best of Australian Shorts’ program features an amazing collection of award winning, uplifting and creative shorts from Australia’s most talented emerging filmmakers, all handpicked from over 3500 entries received for our 29th festival in Bondi earlier this year,” Ms Kidd said.   

 “We are thrilled to be sharing these films with Dalby and Chinchilla for the first time and we look forward to local audiences experiencing these amazing stories in their town.   

 “Our ‘FlickerKids Shorts for Shorties’ program feature an incredible collection of entertaining and inspirational shorts for kids and families from Australia and across the world.   

 “Ten short films have been curated from the best of short films received for Flickerfest 2020 in Bondi, all especially chosen to delight and amaze kids with some truly heart-warming stories.    

 “We are also thrilled to be sharing our delightful FlickerKids program in Jandowae and Drillham for the first time.”  

 The Chinchilla and Dalby events will be held at the local Western Downs Cinemas at a cost of $15 a ticket, including food and beverages.    

 The Drillham and Jandowae events are both free to attend, with food and beverages available for purchase.   

 As COVID-safe events, anyone wishing to attend a Flickerfest session is required to pre-book a ticket – there are limited seats available and tickets will not be sold at the door.
