Elton and Stadium Still Rocking Coffs (11 September 2020)

I was absolutely stoked to hear that the Elton John shows at the C.ex Coffs International Stadium had won the Major Event of the Year Award at the NSW/ACT Parks and Leisure Australia Awards of Excellence – and the Stadium won the Community Facility of the Year Award.

People are still talking about the Elton shows months later. Both nights were handled so smoothly and well – and that couldn’t have happened without the amazing work of the Stadium staff and volunteers. This was a major test of the upgraded Stadium – and credit must go to all the staff involved. They really were events that the city can be proud of for years to come.

Helping Get Your Bushfire Plan Ready

The 2019/20 bushfire season was the most devastating bushfire season in our local and the State’s history. It was a stark reminder of the danger of fire. It was also a reminder of the importance of being prepared and having a plan.

The Coffs Harbour fire season officially started on 1 September 2020 – even while the previous one seems so recent and its impacts still being very much felt in the Orara Valley.

As a result of last year’s fires, people are keen to know more about getting ready.

To help them with early planning and preparation, our local NSW RFS brigades will once again be hosting their annual Get Ready Weekend on 19-20 September, in person and online. The good news is that the Red Hill and Nana Glen RFS Brigades have two new fire trucks to help them tackle any fires that may occur.

I was very glad to be invited to their official handover recently with the Honourable David Elliott MP, Minister for Police and Emergency Services, and RFS Commissioner Rob Rogers.
