Lithgow Halloween is going Digital in 2020 with an online Best Dressed Competition and the 2nd year of the Smartphone Film Competition – and there’ll be major prizes to be won.

Lithgow Council is pleased to announce Lithgow Halloween will be making an appearance in 2020 via an online Smartphone Film Competition and an online Best Dressed Competition – and there’s loads of prizes on offer!

The Best Dressed Competition will be managed totally online (from registering through to uploading costume photos) across 7 categories. The categories are; Male and Female Adult, Boys and Girls Teens, Boys and Girls under 13 and, for the first time ever, a Professional category has been added for Cosplayer’s.

The Best Dressed Competition is offering $11,000 in voucher prizes with 3 costume winners for each category. There’s $600 for first place, $400 for second and $200 for third. All 3 place getters will also receive an official winner’s certificate. To support local businesses and keep the money in the local economy the vouchers will be redeemable locally.

In addition to the 3 winners per category, for every category there will also be 50 additional spot prizes (vouchers) of $50 awarded on a daily basis to an entrant sharing their outfit on social media using the hashtag: #lithgowhalloweendigital2020 and tagging in Lithgow Tourism and Events (Facebook, Instagram and Twitter).

Entries will be judged against a 100 point scale across 5 areas:

Pre-Halloween photo, not in Halloween costume (5 points). Halloween costume photos (60 points). Photos in costume in a prominent Lithgow location/s (20 points). Placing and sharing costume photos on social media (10 points). Writing why the costume was chosen and what Lithgow Halloween means to the entrant (5 points).

Entries will close at 5pm on Saturday the 31st October 2020 and an independent panel will judge all entries. The winners will be announced in the first week of November 2020.

Lithgow Mayor Ray Thompson said today “The Best Dressed prize vouchers are redeemable at local businesses, so it’s a way of keeping the money local and giving back to our own businesses in what has been a difficult year. This is a great opportunity for us to keep the Lithgow Halloween brand alive in 2020 and we look forward to receiving plenty of Best Dressed entries showcasing amazing costumes – and great film entries as well.”

The Film competition will be in its 2nd year and will be promoted once again via the international Film Freeway Website: https://filmfreeway.com/LithgowHalloweenFilmCompetition.

Films will be judged in 4 categories: Most Creative, Best Performance, Best Youth Film and `People’s Choice’ award. The People’s Choice Award will be via online voting. SF3 of the “SmartFone Flick Fest” (Australia’s international smartphone film festival) will be Council’s partner again, promoting the competition to their database and judging the category finalist films. Each Film category winner will receive a winners’ certificate and a prize of $500.

All short listed entries will be available for viewing on the Lithgow Tourism and Events Website once entries close on the 13th of October, that’s when online voting will open and take place for the ‘People’s Choice’ Award.

Mayor Thompson added, “Council is very happy we can offer a COVID19 Safe Lithgow Halloween event for our local community this year, and we all should be following Lithgow Tourism and Events social media channels, Facebook, Instagram and Twitter for all the latest news on Lithgow Halloween Digital 2020.”
