Cohuna Beach works nearing completion

Works to prepare Cohuna Beach for the warmer months will continue in the coming weeks.

Located within the rejuvenated Apex Park precinct, Cohuna Beach forms part of Stage 2 of the Cohuna Waterfront Redevelopment, which is boosting recreational opportunities available to residents and visitors.

“Construction of Cohuna Beach, which occurred in July and August, generated plenty of community interest. Once completed, this precinct will provide residents and visitors with a fun area to play and relax by the beautiful Gunbower Creek,” Council Chief Executive Officer, Tom O’Reilly said.

Further works include the construction of a retaining wall adjacent to the beach, installation of lighting and topping up the sand on-site.

It is anticipated these works will be completed by the end of October.

“Council thanks the Cohuna community for their patience as these works occur and look forward to the completion of this unique Cohuna Beach,” Mr O’Reilly said.

“Council also continues to plan for the community consultation process as part of the $3.4 million Cohuna CBD and Waterfront Development, supported by a $1.7 million investment from the State Government’s Building Works package.”

Stage 1 of the Cohuna Waterfront Project was identified as one of the major projects in the Gannawarra Waterfront Masterplan, approved by Council in 2019 following extensive community consultation.
