Toowoomba Regional Council (TRC) today (September 15) announced the nine new community members who will serve on Council’s Regional Active and Public Transport Advisory Committee (RAPTAC).

The appointment of Anna Campbell (Walk Queensland), Sheree Hughes (Heart Foundation), Tracy Kolbe-Alexander (USQ), John Osborne OAM, Maria Sloane (Yellowbridge), Chris Reynolds, Todd Rohl (Toowoomba Chamber of Commerce), Bruce Steele and Tomas Coory to RAPTAC was approved at today’s TRC September Ordinary Meeting.

Council also approved the appointment of Daniel Naisch (Department of Transport and Main Roads) and Michael Timmer (TransLink) as advisors to the voluntary advisory committee.

Council in June endorsed TRC Infrastructure Services Committee portfolio leader Cr Melissa Taylor as RAPTAC chair with additional Council representation from Cr Carol Taylor (Infrastructure Services Committee chair), Cr Megan O’Hara Sullivan (Planning and Development Committee chair) and Cr James O’Shea (Environment and Community Services Committee chair).

Cr Melissa Taylor said the first meeting of the new advisory committee was expected to be held in October.

“I look forward to drawing on the new committee members’ ideas about ways to encourage more residents to incorporate walking and/or cycling into their daily routines and/or for leisure pursuits to improve their health and well-being,” Cr Taylor said.

“The committee also contributes ideas around public transport, which informs Council’s discussions with the state government, relevant public transport operators and interested user groups.”

Cr Taylor said RAPTAC, which was established in 2013, had offered valuable input which contributed to Council initiatives such as direct involvement in TransLink’s new bus services (2017), the signing of the International Walking Charter (2018) and the Transport and Active Living Forum (2019).

“Council had 14 nominations to the committee from passionate people,” Cr Taylor said.

“It was a hard decision to choose the final committee members, all of whom have diverse interests. Council thanks all nominees for their interest.”

The advisory committee’s term will coincide with the current Council, ending in 2024.

Active and public transport includes travel by foot, bicycle or other wheeled recreation devices, wheelchair, bus, taxi and other ride share schemes, for either transport or recreation.
