Sydney's new destination of opportunity

An exciting multi-million-dollar transformation of the Bankstown CBD is set to get underway and will create a vibrant metropolis and Sydney’s newest place for opportunity.

A world class University, and a kid’s playground with funky water play features all part of the facelift at Paul Keating Park.

Construction of the new vertical multi-level Western Sydney Campus will be completed by 2022 and will attract thousands of students both online and on campus.

It will be the jewel in the crown of an education and health hub offering courses in teaching, psychology, business, IT, health, arts and humanities.

“This is one of the most exciting projects that our city has been a part of. It will be the envy of others and make us Sydney’s new destination for opportunity, according to Canterbury-Bankstown mayor, Khal Asfour.

“The new university campus will add to the new and modern Bankstown, attracting thousands of students and adding $54 million to the South-West Sydney economy,” he said.

The Western Sydney University campus will be constructed beside the modern Bankstown Library and Knowledge Centre and Bankstown Civic Tower. It is all part of a masterplan for the area which proposes to transform the Appian Way to a tree-lines pedestrian thoroughfare, all the way to the new Metro Station. It will also be a retail strip with high-end shops and restaurants.

“The whole area will come alive with activity and be perfect for festivals and market places. A place to live and socialise, “Mayor Asfour said.

“With the changes there will be disruption, but the works will create thousands of jobs and inject millions of dollars into the local economy.

The first stage of works gets underway this week and will see the erection of fencing in the area between the Civic Tower and Bankstown Library and Knowledge Centre (BLaKC), which will see the closure of the carpark at 74 Rickard Road.
