There’s still time to nominate someone deserving for 2021 Maroondah Australia Day Awards

Maroondah, it is time to show thanks to our local unsung heroes and those inspiring individuals that better our community.

Nominations can be submitted online or by downloading a nomination form on our

Maroondah’s Australia Day Awards reward and acknowledge outstanding community service at a local level.

Submissions can be made for individuals or community groups for their contribution to the Maroondah community in either a professional or volunteer capacity.

Maroondah Mayor Cr Mike Symon encouraged residents to consider nominating a person, event or project.

These awards are a great opportunity to recognise and celebrate those who’ve achieved, done something special or showed tremendous dedication to the local community.

There are many inspiring ways that people contribute to our great city, including contributions to sport and recreation, education, business or trades, protecting our environment and volunteering.

The Maroondah Australia Day Awards will be presented at our annual Australia Day celebrations on 26 January 2021. All nominees, as well as the person who nominated them, will be invited to attend the awards ceremony.

A look back at our previous Australia Day Award recipients show we have so much to be proud of, and in many cases their achievements may have gone unrecognised in the wider community if not for someone nominating them for a Maroondah Australia Day Award.

The three categories in which the public can nominate include: Citizen of the Year; Young Citizen of the Year; and Community Event of the Year.

Nominations for Event of the Year recognise events of community significance that have taken place in Maroondah and which reflect the importance of strong community values and ties.

Australia Day Award categories Citizen of the Year Young Citizen of the Year (the person must be over the age of 16 and under 26 year of age on 26 January 2021) Community Event of the Year (the event must have taken place in Maroondah between 1 January 2020 and 31 December 2020. Due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, nominations for online and digital events are being encouraged. Groups can also nominate their own event).

Online submissions close Sunday 22 November 2020.
