Starting October 1, 2020, you can drop off eligible containers for a 10-cent refund at the City of Swan’s Recycling Centre – Bullsbrook.
The launch of Containers for Change in Western Australia (WA) will see at least 200 refund points established across the State.
Containers for Change is WA’s new container deposit scheme, coordinated by WA Return Renew Recycle Ltd (WARRRL).
City of Swan Mayor Kevin Bailey said the City is proud to be home to a Containers for Change refund point in Bullsbrook.
“This program is the ultimate win-win because you’re not only earning money, but you’re also doing your bit to help keep the City beautiful and keep rubbish off our streets,” he said.
“We are serious about taking action to make our City more sustainable and recycling easier than ever.”
Altone Ward Councillor and Waste Advisory Group member Andrew Kiely encouraged the community to register now for a Scheme ID to prepare for the launch.
“Registering for a Scheme ID and setting up your EFT details ahead of time will prevent delays during drop offs and make the process smoother for everyone,” he said.
“We also recommend getting familiar with the list of accepted containers available on the Containers for Change website.”
WARRRL Chief Executive Officer Tim Cusack said the scheme will give Western Australians a chance to make a real difference to the community and the environment, and earn some money doing it.
“Containers for Change WA will be the most accessible container deposit scheme in Australia with refund points being established right across the State,” he said.
“I’m delighted that the City of Swan is joining the scheme as one of our Refund Point Operators.”
In WA, we use more than 1.3 billion eligible drink containers each year; more than 2,000 containers per minute.
