Local senior residents are encouraged to enjoy a self-guided walk in Baw Baw Shire’s great outdoors this October.
Each year as part of the Victorian Seniors Festival Council usually hosts a popular Seniors Walk at a picturesque location within the Shire. Unfortunately, this year’s event has been cancelled due to COVID-19 restrictions on larger public gatherings.
In place of the event, Council is encouraging community members to take a walk outside and explore the diverse tracks and trails that the Shire has to offer at their own pace and time.
Current restrictions allow for up to 10 people to walk and exercise together whilst always social distancing, so it’s a great way to stay connected with your local friends.
A range of walking maps are available on the Council website, ranging from easy town-based walks to more difficult bush walks.
For those interested in local flora and fauna, the Drouin Tree Walks booklet published by the Friends of Drouin's Trees also offers a range of walks highlighting significant vegetation throughout the town. The booklet is available for a gold coin donation at the Drouin Post Office, Drouin Library and at a range of businesses in the town.

Quotes attributable to Mayor Cr Danny Goss
“Although we’re disappointed to not be able to host the Seniors Walk this year, we hope that our community will take this the opportunity to enjoy some leisurely walks during October and in the beautiful spring weather. This is a great time to start getting active and walking more, which has positive effects for the mind and body.”
