Projects, events to benefit from Community Grants program

Published on 21 September 2020

Twenty-two community groups will share in $83,500 of funding thanks to Gannawarra Shire Council’s 2020 Community Grants Program.

One of the highlights of Council’s 2020/21 Budget, community groups and organisations were encouraged during a four-week period to apply for support for proposed community events and projects.

Council approved the successful list of 16 projects and six events to benefit from funding at its September Council Meeting, held on 16 September.

“Once again, Council’s Community Grants Program has been popular with our community groups and organisations, with Council receiving 32 applications across the two categories, those being Community Support and Community Events,” Mayor Lorraine Learmonth said.

“Projects and events that will benefit from this funding demonstrated connection to the Gannawarra Shire Council Plan 2017-2021 and/or community profile priorities, and will address clearly identified community needs.”

Eight community projects received the maximum allocation of $5,000, with initiatives supported through this funding stream ranging from the development of a community garden at Cohuna, the purchasing of mowers and tractors, project designs, venue upgrades and support for war widows.

The Community Grants program will also support the popular Gannawarra Toy Run and Kerang New Year’s Eve Party in the Park, as well as the Cohuna Bowls Club’s plan to support future lawn bowls champions.

“Council thanks all applicants for submitting a request for funding, and congratulates the successful applicants,” Mayor Learmonth said.

“We look forward to seeing how these successful projects come to fruition over the coming 12 months.”
