Festival of Footy in Freo
City of Fremantle 21 Sep 2020

The first weekend in October is going to be a Festival of Footy in Fremantle, culminating in the WA Football League Grand Final at Fremantle Oval on Sunday 4 October.

WAFL fans are being encouraged to warm-up for the big game by wearing their team colours to work on Friday 2 October before heading into Freo for footy-themed after work drinks and dinner.

On Saturday 3 October fans will be able to hear from the team captains and coaches at the pre-game media conference at the Esplanade Reserve between 11.30am-12.30pm.

There will also be the chance to get up close and personal with the WAFL Premiership Cup and the historic Dixson Cup – the oldest premiership cup in Australian Rules Football history.

A highlight of the Grand Final activities on Sunday will be a Fan March along the famous Cappuccino Strip, led by the 2020 WAFLW Premiers, community and junior football clubs and some WAFL legends.

Fans will muster at Pioneer Park near the Fremantle Station at 1.15pm before heading off down the strip at 1.30pm.

Those lucky enough to secure a Grand Final ticket will head for Fremantle Oval, while people without a ticket can chuck a righty down Norfolk Street and head for the Live Site at Esplanade Reserve to watch the big game on the big screen.

The Esplanade Reserve Live Site will open from 11am and screen the Colts Grand Final as well as the League final.

There will also be a program of family-friendly entertainment and activities, appearances by former players and personalities and traders at nearby Fishing Boat Harbour will have special offers on food and beverages.

Across the weekend Fremantle businesses are being encouraged to fly the colours of the competing teams and offer special footy deals.

Bouncedown for the League Grand Final will be at 3.10pm, with Colts at 12.10pm and Reserves at 9.15am.
