Leitchville Pre-School’s efforts in promoting healthy dental practices have claimed a State award.
The pre-school’s three-day program of activities relating to dental health won the Victorian Smiles 4 Miles Dental Health Week Competition.
Held during August 2020, the initiative aimed to improve the oral health of children and their families through promoting healthy eating and drinking, as well as educating on dental health practices.
“Council is proud to work with Northern District Community Health to participate in the Smiles 4 Miles program, developed by Dental Health Services Victoria,” Council Chief Executive Officer, Tom O’Reilly said.
“We want all children living in the Gannawarra to grow up with healthy smiles. This can be achieved by encouraging good brushing, consuming water as the drink of choice and eating healthy foods, like crunchy fruit and vegetables.”
Leitchville Pre-School’s award-winning entry involved three days of activities, including a brush your teeth table, a breakfast cereal sugar display and the filming of a reading of Dr. Rabbit Meets a Brushalotamus for the pre-school’s parents Facebook page.
Events wrapped up with children enjoying a healthy breakfast, followed by the children displaying their teeth brushing skills.
As a result of their efforts, Leitchville Pre-School will be presented with a large dog tooth model puppet and Peppa Pig Dentist Trip book once COVID-19 restrictions are eased.
“Council congratulates Leitchville Pre-School for its efforts to promote healthy oral health practices,” Mr O’Reilly said.
