The Northern Beaches is home to many precious native animals and is blessed to have local volunteers who take care of them when they are sick or injured.
But what happens if you need penicillin for your possum or antibiotics for your antechinus?
The Sydney Wildlife Mobile Care Unit is coming to their rescue, camping out at our Coastal Environment Centre on Thursdays from 24 September.
The fully-equipped ‘clinic-on-wheels’ transports volunteers, including veterinarians, to areas where they can treat injured wildlife, or offer support to local wildlife carers.
Registered wildlife carers from any rescue organisation will be able to book an appointment and have their precious cargo assessed and treated.
Northern Beaches residents and Mobile Care Unit coordinators Lynleigh Greig and Joan Reid, said “they were delighted to be able to bring the clinic to the Northern Beaches to support local carers.
“Our veterinary team is skilled in diagnosing and treating wildlife afflictions. This could be life saving for the animals in care. Any rescue animal is welcome, whether it be a cuddly kangaroo or a venomous snake.
“Thanks to the generosity of our donors, the brand new recreation vehicle has been re-purposed and fitted out with a surgery table, enclosures for every type of patient, reptile handling gear and diagnostic equipment of almost every kind.”
The mobile care unit has returned from being deployed earlier in the year at the fire-affected areas where they were treating injured and displaced animals.
For Thursday appointments, carers from any wildlife rescue organisation are invited to book here:
