Incentives Aimed at Boosting Community Sport

The Shire of Augusta Margaret River has provided a range of incentives to sports clubs with the aim of lessening the financial burdens they continue to face as a result of COVID-19 restrictions.

Incentives included:

Recreation Operations Manager, Dylan Brown said community sport is an integral part of our town’s identity and affirmed the Shire’s commitment to getting local residents back out with their teammates, enjoying the activities they love.

“I’d love to see community sport and active recreation organisations survive this crisis and come back better than ever,” he said. “It is critical to our economic and social recovery, and to our community’s physical and mental wellbeing.”

“We know that people in Augusta Margaret River want to get out and represent their local club more than ever,” he said. “We’re working hard to make that happen for this season and the season ahead by giving local clubs the help they need to stay active.”

Margaret River Netball Association President, Amber Fairbass explained that the waiver would assist with the clubs plans to purchase new uniforms for the 2021 season and also to look towards 2021 with development netball.

“We are ever so grateful to the Shire for waiving part of the court costs for Margaret River Netball Association’s season in 2020, due to the impact that the COVID pandemic has had on everyone”, she said.

“Without the support of our local Shire, families and volunteers, this short season may not have been possible for our club”.

The total fee waivers amounted to just over $15,000 and will benefit several local clubs.
