Lachlan Shire Council’s utilities team conducted maintenance on the Fifield water reservoir on Tuesday 23 September 2020, cleaning the tank’s inside surface with a high-pressure washer.
The reservoir’s internal wall required cleaning due to a build-up of sludge at the bottom of the hopper section. The job, which commenced at 8.30 am and went until midday, was completed as part of regular maintenance works by the utilities team.
The works will improve the raw water quality before warmer weather sets in and also ensure Council’s water assets are well maintained.
The work was classified as high risk due to team members working at height and in a confined space however the task was completed with no safety issues.
Quotations are currently being obtained for a roof to cover the reservoir and a ladder to make access easier. Currently, a cherry picker has to be used to reach the top of the reservoir.
Residents of Fifield are reminded that the Fifield water supply is classified as non-potable. This water is only suitable for use where there is no human contact such as gardening, evaporative coolers, flushing toilets, etc.
Residents are responsible for sourcing potable water from other water supplies for essential needs such as drinking, cooking, washing food, bathing and cleaning teeth.
