There’s been an exciting announcement for Coffs Coast artists from the ages of 5 to 18 – they’ve been invited to create a portrait for the Young Archie competition being hosted by Coffs Harbour Regional Gallery.
The Young Archie is the youth version of Australia’s most famous portrait competition, The Archibald Prize, which will itself be coming to Coffs Harbour Regional Gallery in January 2021.
Like the Archibald Prize, young artists can create their portrait entry by ‘painting or drawing from life’ or from a photo. Young Archie entries must be of someone who is known and special to the artist. I can’t wait to see the entries!
The competition is now open and you can find all the details and an entry form on the Gallery page on Council’s website at www.coffsharbour.nsw.gov.au/gallery Entries close on 20 November 2020.
Thank You
I’d like to thank Councillor Tegan Swan for being the Deputy Mayor for the past two years – and congratulate Councillor George Cecato on being voted in as the new Deputy Mayor.
Important Projects
While there’s always a lot of discussion about the big projects that are being built or planned across our local government area (LGA) – the Cultural and Civic Space, the West Woolgoolga Sports Complex, the Coffs Coast Regional Sports Hub to name just a few – it’s worth remembering that day in, day out Council crews are out constructing things like new toilet blocks, pathx and cycleways, resurfacing roads, putting in storm drainage, maintaining sports fields, parks and reserves and building kerb and guttering.
These are all vitally important projects that don’t always get the attention they deserve. But rest assured, Council has a long list of these projects on the go at all times.
If you’re interested in what’s happening on any given day around the LGA, take a look at the Maintenance Works page on Council’s website – www.coffsharbour.nsw.gov.au It’s updated every week day so is a great source of information.
