Business owners are invited to submit their ideas to activate local shopping precincts in the lead up to Christmas.
The Block Parties program has been developed to encourage residents to shop locally and support retailers, service providers and eateries that have struggled through the COVID-19 pandemic.
Lord Mayor Anna Reynolds encouraged neighbouring business owners to join forces to submit a proposal.
“We’re keen to help get more people out and about in the lead up to Christmas and the summer holidays. We hope these events will capture people’s attention and bring them to different shopping areas,” Cr Reynolds said.
“The local business community know what’s going to work best for them and their area, so we are inviting them to apply. If it’s approved, our city staff will provide the financial and logistical support to make their ideas a reality.”
Block parties could involve games, live entertainment, market-style stalls or other activities that would enhance the local shopping experience.
Expressions of Interest are invited to be submitted by groups of at least three business operators from each shopping precinct located within the City of Hobart area. The program is open to both city centre and suburban precincts.
Further information and an online application form is available at hobartcity.com.au/blockparty. Submissions close on 14 October.
