The Regional Skills Development Program is looking to invest in emerging undergraduate talent by providing undergraduates with a unique and exceptional vacation program designed to develop their knowledge and skill set within Civil Engineering.
The Program sees the partnership of three regional Councils for the provision of vacation work positions in civil engineering. The position will then rotate once a year over a three-year period to include employment with each Council.
Our program develops undergraduates through focused rotations across 3 Local Government Areas providing for a 12-week experience at each participating Council. It is supported by a comprehensive induction, mentoring program, on-the-job experiences linked directly to the engineering field, and technical and personal development.
Undergraduate induction:

That gives undergraduates exposure to 3 regional Local Government Organisations providing a strong technical foundation and breadth whilst meeting undergraduate and business needs.

Isaac Regional Council’s 3000km road network links our region, spanning from the coalfields to the coast, through cattle country and welcoming communities. Program Overview The Regional Skills Development Program is designed to provide an opportunity for university undergraduates to experience a taste of Local Government with placements across three regional Councils. We encourage applications from all 2nd year Civil Engineering students, however may consider 1st year students and you can be sure that your work will be contributing to the future productivity and sustainability of regional Queensland.
About You Essential
Currently undertaking tertiary qualifications in Engineering (Civil), from a recognised tertiary institution; Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suites and the ability to prepare a variety of documentation to support program objectives; Excellent interpersonal, communication and organisational skills are essential; Demonstrated success in the areas of reporting, negotiation, problem solving; and Willingness to commit to three tenures of 12-week durations between Banana Shire Council, Central Highlands Regional Council and Isaac Regional Council.Experience
Previous work experience within a technical capacity would be highly regarded Willingness to develop skills to assist with the delivery of Construction, Maintenance and Urban Programs Demonstrated experience, or the ability to gain experience in the preparation, evaluation and management of contracts, including understanding tender and contract documentation with attention to detail Demonstrated capacity to provide technical, administrative and construction support Knowledge of local government and their role in civil design principles and practices, including the desire to utilise technical knowledge within a local government organisationQualifications
