New and renewed transport infrastructure in the Capertee Valley

Lithgow City Council, working in partnership with the Federal Government, continues to support the growth of the Capertee Valley through transport infrastructure upgrades.
Over the last 20 years, Lithgow City Council has been progressively sealing both the Glen Alice Road and Glen Davis Road. This financial year, Council has committed to the completion of this project.
“Long term residents would remember a time when the Glen Davis Road and Glen Alice Road were unsealed from the Castlereagh Highway to both Glen Davis and the Lithgow LGA boundary at Mt Marsden, a length of over 68 kilometres,” said Lithgow City Council’s Mayor, Councillor Ray Thompson. “However, I am very pleased to announce that over the course of the 2020/21 financial year, Lithgow City Council will be working in partnership with the Federal Government to finalise the renewal and upgrade of both Glen Alice Road and Glen Davis Road delivering a sealed surface for this entire length.”
In 2020/21, $1.83 million has been allocated to this project, comprising approximately $800,000 from the federal Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program, $330,000 from the federal Heavy Vehicle Safety and Productivity Program, $370,000 generated from Lithgow’s special rate variation and $330,000 of Council’s standard revenue. All told, this will see over 15 kilometres of new bitumen seal applied in this area.
“Lithgow Council is greatly appreciative of this opportunity to work alongside Mr. Andrew Gee and the Federal Government to show our support to the residents of the Capertee Valley through the delivery of upgraded infrastructure,” Mayor Thompson said. “The reconstruction of Glen Davis Road aims to better connect residents of remote communities, facilitate growth in business productivity through improved transport networks and better promote tourism and the unique beauty of the Capertee Valley.
“Alongside these local business and social outcomes, this project also offers benefits to Council’s yearly operations by reducing maintenance expenditure.”

Local residents are already reaching out in appreciation of Council’s construction staff and the work they’ve undertaken to date. While Council has already commenced work on Glen Davis Road, tenders will be released in coming weeks for public submission on the Glen Alice Road project and physical works are expected to start shortly thereafter.
