Your local Library branches are reopening

Blue Mountains City Council is thrilled to announce that Blackheath, Wentworth Falls and Lawson library branches will reopen on Tuesday 13 October.

There will be some small changes to opening hours, and limits on the numbers of visitors permitted in the buildings, but Blue Mountains Library is pleased to be able to further lift restrictions that have been in place since the COVID-19 pandemic started.

“We know that our residents really miss their local branches and the friendly personal service they get from our branch Librarians,” Mayor Mark Greenhill said. 

“While the eLibrary is rich in materials, and has been very popular during the various phases of COVID closures, we do know that there is no substitute for the real thing and that many residents do not have access to the Internet.

For these residents, the reopening of our part-time branches is particularly important.”

Cultural and Community Services Director Kirrilly Twomey said: “The cosy nature of some of our library buildings has meant that we have had to make some important changes such as installations of sneeze screens, working out how many visitors can be safely accommodated in branches and limiting the amount of time they spend there as well as allocating time for valuable, thorough, regular cleaning. 

“We would also like to remind the community about the Pop-Up Library @ Home service that is still operating. This is for the elderly, people living with a disability and those who have to self-isolate. We will deliver books and DVDs to your door – they are a gift and do not need to be returned. Just call any library branch to access this service.”
