Arts Trail talks begin

Community consultation regarding the Gannawarra Arts Trail has started, with the consultants engaged to develop the project to make contact with key community members and organisations during October.

Council has engaged ‘Person Place Thing’ to develop this important strategic planning project, which aims to showcase art in the Gannawarra.

“The Gannawarra Arts Trail project is about identifying major creative opportunities within the Gannawarra’s townships that are brand aligned and designed to support visitation and profile the creative aspects of the Gannawarra,” Gannawarra Shire Council Chief Executive Officer, Tom O’Reilly said.

“This might include major art pieces, cultural interpretations, light installations or links to our natural environment.

“The development of the Gannawarra Arts Trail will support Council and the community in seeking future major arts funding to develop art works, develop a coordinated tourist trail and ensure that our creative community is embraced and supported in developing these works.”

During the coming weeks, Person Place Thing will contact key community members and organisations to develop initial concepts, gather ideas and opinions on what they think represents the community that they live in.

“Further community consultation, to seek different or more diverse creative ideas, will occur at a later date,” Mr O’Reilly said.

“Council looks forward to the outcomes of this first stage of consultation, which will lead to another major tourism attraction for the Gannawarra and continue to recognise our diverse communities.”
