A temporary outdoor exhibition in the courtyard of the BAFC/Burnie Regional Art Gallery called Chee YONG: HERE TODAY can be seen from 6 October 2020, during normal gallery opening hours.
Mayor Steve Kons said “The Burnie Shines Festival, on throughout the month of October, has surprises and interesting things going on even in this restricted environment. The Festival is an opportunity for us to celebrate spring in the northwest, connect with the community and experience innovations in art.
“One artist included in the program, Chee YONG, has installed a temporary artwork in the Gallery Courtyard. The artwork, called HERE TODAY is a short-term installation that is his response to the pandemic. HERE TODAY is a reminder about the fragility of life and also that this too will pass. The sand image is meant to erode in the weather ... so see it soon because it might be gone tomorrow.” said Mayor Kons.
Chee YONG is an interdisciplinary artist interested in the uncertainties of art making, mark making and responding to ambiguities of life. He is primarily a painter but he is also a photographer, ceramic artist, sculptor and installation artist.
The Gallery is open free to the public from 10 am to 4.30 pm Monday to Friday and Saturdays from 11 am to 4 pm. Visitors will be asked to sign in on entry for contact tracing and to comply with local, state and commonwealth regulations during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Burnie Regional Art Gallery is an initiative of Burnie City Council and is assisted through Arts Tasmania by the Minister for the Arts.
