Wollondilly Council has demonstrated its commitment to supporting the health and wellbeing of the local community with the adoption of the Wilton Health and Wellbeing Strategy at its September meeting.

The Strategy is the first if its kind and was developed in collaboration with South Western Sydney Local Health District (SWSLHD), who have partnered with Council to prioritise health in planning.

Mayor Robert Khan noted the importance of planning strategically to ensure the best possible health and wellbeing outcomes.

“Health isn’t just the absence of disease or injury, it’s also about physical, mental and social wellbeing,” he said.

“A wide range of social and environmental factors contribute to our health, so the way we plan, design and build our communities has a huge impact on the health of our residents.”

The Strategy will guide planning decisions and ensure that they provide the best possible health outcomes for people living and working in Wilton.

It focuses on helping people to make healthy behavioural choices and includes four focus areas; social infrastructure, transport and connectivity, green infrastructure and housing.

In adopting the Strategy, Council also resolved to send it to Federal and State MPs to support Council’s ongoing advocacy for connected and on-time infrastructure that puts people first.
