Isaac Regional Council has welcomed a commitment by the LNP to spend $6.1 million to fully fund refurbishment of the Moranbah Community Centre if elected to government.
Mayor Anne Baker said the Moranbah Community Centre plays a vital role for the community but needs significant refurbishing and upgrading.
“The Moranbah Community Centre is the only building in Moranbah large enough to host major community meetings and large-scale training and skills development projects,” Mayor Baker said.
“The Centre is a critical community resource but is 50 years old and now requires a significant refurbishment and upgrade.
“In particular, it requires technological upgrades to ensure connectivity needs are met for industry and general community users into the future, as well as replacement of mechanical services, including the air-conditioning system.
“An upgrade of the Community Centre would see it better fulfil its role as Moranbah’s only contemporary multi-functional community space, supporting the needs of the community, mining industry and local businesses.
“Refurbishment of the Moranbah Community Centre is one of the major projects in our advocacy documents presented to political candidates ahead of the October 31 State election.
“Council welcomes this commitment from the LNP.
“We are calling on all Queensland political parties to make significant undertakings to support the Isaac Region.
“Investment in the Isaac Region is an investment in more jobs, higher earnings and a stronger economy throughout Queensland.”
This announcement by the LNP follows last week’s commitment to spend $16.5 million to replace the Phillips Creek Bridge, on Saraji Road between Moranbah and Dysart, if elected.
