Yass Valley Way works - postponed this week Council, together with Roadworx, has made the decision to postpone next week’s scheduled works on Yass Valley Way in light of the large amount of rain forecast. The Roadworx team has commenced stabilisation of the pavement and, if they continue to work though in the wet conditions, it will affect not only the finished pavement surface but also the long term quality of the road. The team will be back onsite from Monday, 12 October and will continue on with the planned works. We thank you for your understanding as we work through this major project.
LED upgrade Work to upgrade more than 951 streetlights to energy efficient technology will begin this week as part of a major energy efficiency project that will save hundreds of thousands in electricity bills and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The switch to LED technology will see a 185.2 MWh per year reduction in power use, delivering savings of approximately $59,000 each year in maintenance and electricity costs. Council is investing approximately $462,000 to complete the bulk upgrade, with the costs expected to be recouped within a period of 7.14 years.

Public ConsultationSubmissions welcome for Civic Precinct
In February 2020, Council endorsed a ‘wish list’ of projects and resolved to undertake planning and design work so the projects would be ‘shovel ready’ in the event of grant funding opportunities. One of these projects is a Civic Precinct, which would include a new library, community rooms and exhibition spaces, long term Government tenants and the retention of Crago's Mill among other elements. Council is keen to understand if the elements for inclusion in the Civic Precinct meet community needs and expectations. Community members are invited to make a submission on the proposed location and scope of works.
