Declutter, help the environment and make some cash – join the garage sale trail!

Central Highlands households, schools and community groups are set to join thousands of people across Australia on Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 November as a part of the tenth annual Garage Sale Trail.

A multi award-winning community and sustainability event, Garage Sale Trail is supported by over 140 local councils nation-wide. This year’s event includes options to get involved both online and in the real world so Australians can take part no matter what COVID-19 restrictions are in place in their area.

Central Highlands Regional Council Mayor Kerry Hayes said the annual event is a fun way for council to encourage re-use and help educate the community about the impact we can all make when we buy second-hand.

‘The Garage Sale Trail enables you to divert valuable resources from landfill and make or save money in the process. It’s also a wonderful way to connect with your neighbours and the broader community.

‘This is a valuable fundraising event for many of our community groups and also an opportunity for individual households to declutter and make some money.

Last year:

18,000 garage sales were held Australia wide.  Over 3.2 million kilograms of goods were diverted from landfill.  Over 400,000 Australians took part.  Participants sold an average of $319 of goods.
