Members of our Environment and Climate Change team recently joined forces with a local community garden group to help revitalise the gardens of Biala Girls Hostel in Allambie Heights.
The hostel which gives Indigenous girls from rural NSW the opportunity to receive a high school education at a Sydney school got its recent garden makeover with support from Mosman Gardening Club and Northern Beaches Council.
Hostel Manager Tracie Lane was appreciative to all those who offered a helping hand and was particularly thrilled they came with skilled green thumbs.
“The girls who board with us during term time have gone back to their communities for school holidays, so this was perfect timing for the garden upgrade.
“I’m sure the girls will be excited to see how great it all looks when they return from their holiday break with freshly mulched garden beds and new native shrubs,” said Ms Lane.
The hostel, which has been welcoming girls from all over NSW since the 1960s, has been described as a ‘lifeline’ for the girls who board while completing their high school studies.
