Contemporary Aboriginal artists’ exhibition to share local stories

Local Indigenous artists have mounted an exhibition connecting the Northern Beaches community to the diverse history of the area.

With the support of Council, the North Side Aboriginal Artists (NSAA) will hold the Daryung exhibition until 17 October at the Creative Space, Curl Curl.

Meaning ‘the Stingray’, Daryung, explores an important Aboriginal storyline in coastal Sydney, endorsed by local Indigenous knowledge-holders.

The exhibition presents an array of media from weaving, painting, graphite rubbings and clay works, to poetry, as well as writers and performing artists.

Mayor Michael Regan said he was delighted that Council could help the artists stage this important exhibition.

“This exhibition delivers on Council’s goal to support Aboriginal communities and share their stories,” Cr Regan said.

“This exhibition is unique, bringing together a diverse group of contemporary Aboriginal artists and writers, who have created new works inspired by place, local flora and fauna, and the artists’ own histories.

“We’re confident this exhibition deepens the community’s understanding of local Aboriginal arts and culture.”
