With summer fast approaching, we’re reminding private pool and spa owners they have until 1 November 2020 to register their pool/spa with Council.
So far, about 5700 safety-first Baysiders have taken the plunge and registered their pool/spa but we know there are still more pools and spas out there. Don’t let safety slide- failure to register within this timeframe may attract a fine of up to $330.
REGISTER POOL/SPA
Despite significant reductions in toddler drowning deaths over time, drowning continues to be one of the leading causes of accidental death for Australian children under 5 years of age. Backyard pools are the most common location where these drowning incidents occur.
Pool and spa barriers play an important role in reducing the risk of drowning incidents and evidence shows a large number of drowning incidents occur as a result of safety barriers which are faulty or non-compliant with Australian standards.
On 1 December 2019, new laws to improve swimming pool and spa safety came into effect in Victoria including new registration, inspection and certification requirements for property owners.
As part of the first step, homeowners are required to register their pool or spa with council by 1st November 2020.
