Al fresco dining boost
Bayside City Council 14 Oct 2020

We’re gearing up for an outdoor shopping and dining expansion in Bayside once COVID-19 restrictions ease.

We are committed to creating new COVIDSafe spaces where our community can come together while supporting local businesses through the pandemic recovery.

Applications are now open for operators of local shops, cafes and restaurants to expand onto the footpath or car parking space adjacent to their business at no cost once restrictions allow.

So far, over 45 businesses have jumped on board to expand into an al fresco space and increase the number of customers they can serve in a COVIDSafe environment.

We are establishing the new outdoor dining and shopping areas thanks to the support of the Victorian Government Outdoor Eating and Entertainment Package.

The implementation of the outdoor dining program is being delivered at no cost to traders. Additional grants are also available from the Victorian Government to support eligible hospitality businesses prepare to reopen.

We are also planning additional temporary spaces in our shopping villages to provide more room for COVIDSafe outdoor gatherings that met current Victorian Government restrictions.

As we await the easing of restrictions, let’s all continue to practice COVID safe principles – wear a mask, stay 1.5m apart, use good hand hygiene and stay home if you are unwell.
